Portesham Village Hall 

WANTED!!! Volunteer with IT skills to act as Secretary to the Management Committee.

We are looking for a new colleague to join the Village Hall Management Committee as soon as possible, with a view to taking on the role of the secretary from November 2021 when the current secretary retires. The role includes working with the Chair to plan meetings and keep accurate records. You would join a team of sixteen, all local people, in helping to keep the Hall well maintained and ensuring we obtain enough income to cover the running costs, so that the Hall can fulfil its role as a hub for the community. The committee normally meets four times a year, recently via Zoom, with occasional additional meetings if necessary. The secretary needs good organisational skills and to be proficient at using IT and, of course, enjoy working as a member of a team. Lockdown Easing:


STEP 4, as from the 19th July:

The Village Hall Management Committee are recommending and encouraging the following:

• That you wear a face covering whenever entering the hall, particularly in confined spaces such as the kitchen, corridors and toilets and at more crowded events.

• For any event allowing entry to the general public, for example a village cafe:- 

QR codes are still to be used by those wishing to check in using the NHS Covid 19 app or contact details may be requested to support NHS Test & Trace.

• That you keep the hall well ventilated whenever possible.

• Washing your hands regularly with soap & water or by using hand sanitiser.

• Please stay at home if you are feeling unwell.

• That you cover your mouth and nose if you cough or sneeze.

The Hall's Management Committee will meet at least quarterly in 2021 with additional

meetings, as needed, to enable us to respond to any rule changes.

Portesham Village Hall

A spacious, modern hall, situated on the edge of our historic and picturesque village in the heart of the Dorset countryside.

It has 3 rooms for hire, a lawned garden with patio and a car park.


Main Hall   -   16.20m x 9.30m including Stage 3.70m x 5.58m

Our maximum permitted numbers are according to our risk assessments based upon Fire Safety requirements and are as follows:

200 persons standing. 

150 seated in connected rows, theatre style.

100 seated at tables.

There is a large fitted stage with appropriate concert style lighting.

The hall has full facilities including super-fast broadband and is suitable for conferences, celebrations and concerts. 

A 4 metre electrically operated screen, an HD Optoma EH501 digital projector and professional sound system with eight surround sound speakers are available.



Ron Doble Room

4.45m x 6.35m


This smaller  room, comfortably seating 30, is accessed directly from the foyer, and is suitable for smaller functions and meetings.


There is a hatchway straight to the kitchen for serving teas and coffees.

Hardy Room

A small committee room with table and chairs seating 12.
A portable projector and screen are available with this room. 



The well fitted kitchen has a large hatch to serve the Main Hall.

It has a large expanse of worktop, 90cm electric range cooker with ceramic hob, small dish washer, drinks water boiler, microwave, fridge plus a full set of crockery, glassware and cutlery.

8 rectangular aluminium tables, each seating 6-8 people

9 rectangular melamine tables, each seating 6-8 people

10 square melamine tables, each seating 4 people

Crockery, cutlery and glasses are available


Toilet facilities:  There are spacious Ladies and Gents toilets and a Disabled Toilet with baby changing facility.


Car Park: The adjacent car park can accommodate up to 20 cars.

Bicycle racks

The rear Garden, which is mainly lawned, and a patio (which includes a storage bench containing 4 

parasols) run the length of the hall and is approximately 10 metres deep with a double gated entrance from the car park.
