Portesham Village Hall

WANTED!!! Volunteer with IT skills to act as Secretary to the Management Committee.

We are looking for a new colleague to join the Village Hall Management Committee as soon as possible, with a view to taking on the role of the secretary from November 2021 when the current secretary retires. The role includes working with the Chair to plan meetings and keep accurate records. You would join a team of sixteen, all local people, in helping to keep the Hall well maintained and ensuring we obtain enough income to cover the running costs, so that the Hall can fulfil its role as a hub for the community. The committee normally meets four times a year, recently via Zoom, with occasional additional meetings if necessary. The secretary needs good organisational skills and to be proficient at using IT and, of course, enjoy working as a member of a team. If you are interested, please contact me, Tina Miller at secretary.porteshamvh@gmail.com

Lockdown Easing:

The recent announcement from the Government concerning its four-step approach to easing lockdown should allow us to gradually resume community activities in the coming months.

It's excellent news and we are very much looking forward to welcoming people back!

At present, the Hall remains closed except for the Post Office service (from 11 - 1 on Thursdays). The only exception is that the hall will serve as a polling station for the election of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Dorset on 6th May.

The picture should change significantly in Step 3 which will commence, at the earliest, on 17th May. We will then be able to open for some regular activities and classes and for certain events. The PVH Calendar will be regularly updated as bookings come in so please continue to look out for anything you are interested in.

So, between 17th May and 21st June:

• controlled indoor events can only take place with up to 50% capacity, which, in the main hall's case, is a maximum of 36 persons seated and socially distanced.

• Hospitality settings may take place in accordance with the "Rule of 6".

• Indoor sport activities including exercise classes, table-tennis & badminton can take place.

• The "Rule of 6" is abolished for outdoor gatherings and replaced with a limit of 30 people.

• The test, trace & isolate programme remains in place so the usual records will still need to be kept.

• Continued attention to  -  hand washing and general good hygiene, wiping down of touched surfaces and the wearing of face masks.

• Remember:   HANDS.    FACE.    SPACE.    FRESH AIR.

No doubt, further guidance will be issued nearer the time, so if you are planning an event or want to start an activity during that period, please contact our Bookings Officer, Keith Brignell

by email:porteshamvh@gmail.com or call 07818032416 to discuss your requirements.

From the 21st June, at the earliest, subject to the Government's four tests being met, most limitations on activities should be lifted and we will be able to return to our usual schedule of events and regular bookings, large and small. We expect that there may be some limitations, such as continued use of face coverings, but we hope that otherwise normal service will be resumed.

LOOKING FORWARD TO MEET UP AGAIN!

Please note: Government regulations still require everyone to wear a face covering while in the Hall, except when drinking or exercising.

We are following guidance set down by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England),

at www.acre.org.uk

The Hall's Management Committee will meet at least quarterly in 2021 with additional

meetings, as needed, to enable us to respond to any rule changes.

The current schedule is:

19.30 Thursday 15th July

19.30 Thursday 28th October is the AGM which all members of the community are welcome to attend

Should you have any questions please contact:
